WHO IS OPEN ARMS?
Open Arms Childcare Ministries is a non-profit charity that provides no-cost childcare to needy families. We currently have two campuses. Our first campus opened 11 years ago and is located in La Mision, Baja California, Mexico. Our second campus opened on 2016 and is located in Camalu, Baja Cailfornia, Mexico. Open Arms provides assistance to families who are in desperate need of childcare services.
Mexico is a third world country with no real form of childcare. Because of the drastic decline of the peso, many families are no longer able to survive on the father’s salary alone. This is forcing mothers into the workforce at a fast pace, and their children in turn become victims.
Our hope and prayer is to keep families together by providing them with a safe refuge during the day. Our goal is to keep children out of orphanages and off the streets, and bring them into the loving arms of Jesus Christ. The care and assistance we provide for these families extends beyond basic well-being and encompasses all facets of a productive lifestyle, which includes but is not limited to academic, religious, and life education.
WHAT WILL WE DO?
- Running Children's Programs
- Helping with Construction Projects
- Supporting their Youth Program
This is a great opportunity for people to get out of their reality to experience another while being hands and feet of Jesus to people in great need, not that far away from home. Our hope is to engage people in an experience that can shift their paradigm and broaden their world view.
Despite the negative image that is often portrayed in the news and across American media platforms about Mexico, it is actually much safer than many people think. Open Arms missionaries and their children who currently live in La Mision and spend time in Camalu have not come in contact with any drug cartels and haven't expressed that they have ever felt unsafe. That being said, we all use caution and good common sense when venturing into the community and around other parts in Mexico, just like we would in our hometowns!
